Last year while I was still living in the area, my friend and I walked by Blue Marble when it was still “Coming Soon”. Then after that I didn’t hear much about it besides my occasional questioning to my friend since she lives across the street from it. In late September of 2007 there was the Atlantic Antic, an annual street fair on Atlantic Ave from 4th Ave to Hicks St in Brooklyn. I think it’s one of the best street fairs because it has vendors from Brooklyn, mostly the ones that are already on Atlantic Ave. Anyways, so last year as my friends and I were walking down Atlantic Ave. enjoying the street fair, we noticed a tiny Blue Marble tent. I can’t remember if they were serving ice cream at the tent since they do serve baked goods at the shop.
So fast forward to last weekend when it was hot, humid, and about to rain. We just stepped out of the theater after watching Wall-e (cute movie!!) and like magic we both wanted ice cream from Blue Marble. Just as my friend parked her bike it started to rain so we went inside to a lovely space that was very, erm, very…..barn like? The floors and furniture were made out of wood then painted white, near the entrance there was a picture of a painted cow. My goal that day was to get a scoop of their coffee ice cream BUT when I saw their green tea I asked for a sample. After trying just that little bit I decided to get a scoop on a sugar cone. There used to be a brand of ice cream that made REALLY good green tea ice cream but for some reason I couldn’t find them anymore. Ever since I’ve been searching for that good green tea ice cream besides going to a Japanese restaurant. The green tea at Blue Marble was creamy, rich and just the right amount of green tea flavors. I have had so many green tea ice cream that felt more like a sorbet than a rich creamy ice cream. Just for a moment I had forgotten the yucky weather outside, thanks Blue Marble!!
